Where do we come from?

The Men's Networking Group of Ireland was established in June 1994, arising from a seminar of Men's Groups in the Spa Hotel, Lucan, Co Dublin that month. One of the key points identified at this seminar was the need to establish some form of network in Men's Development work that was taking place. A network group would be the means by which the men in local groups could take up the responsibility themselves, without over relying on outside facilitators.

What are we?

The group operate with a community development ethos and approach. Members are drawn from Men's Groups operating in areas of disadvantage. We support such groups, as we believe that they help address disadvantage and social exclusion through a process of community development.

How do we work?

The group has elected a working committee to work towards the aims and objectives of the network. We act as an information source on existing men's groups and provide support for the development of Men's Groups. We have held various seminars in our first three years and continue to hold various courses on our premises. We are currently researching Men's health issues because of the rising statistics of male suicides in our society. Research has been completed on the issues of discrimination against men in disadvantaged areas in regards to third level education.

Our aims and objectives

  • Provide ongoing support for existing groups and for the establishment of new groups.
  • Organise seminars and social activities for men
  • Lobby for social chnage for men who are discriminated against in society, e.g. males in disadvantaged areas in regards to third level education.
  • Research into various men's issues including statistics of male suicide.
  • Recording men's development nationally
  • continue the work we have been doing for the past six years
